Everything Old is New Again

KC Alexander “Necrotech” (Angry Robot, 2016)

Is it just me? This book seems to be getting some decent buzz, with a pretty favorable response.  But I’m just not feeling it.

It’s a story about a badass female mercenary and her frenemies.  There’s tons of body augmentation, conspiracies, and violence.

And to me, it just feels like a rehash of the cyberpunk books I read decades ago.  The characters are no more likeable (and less intriguing at this stage of my life), and the tech isn’t any more realistic.

Sometimes there’s a book that you bounce off and it’s clear that it’s not the fault of you or the book.  It’s just not for you.  For me, this is one of those books.
