Emma Rios “ID” (Image, 2016)
I don’t have a great deal of history with the work of Emma
Rios. I only know her from Pretty Deadly. But, wow I love her art there.
This is her one woman show, a dystopian SF story of three
people who are considering body transplants.
The decision to use primary red or pink ink adds to the
faint and sketchy feel of the art. Quite
frankly that more than anything really put me off this book. My eyes just didn’t want to stay on the page.
Combining that with a story and characters that didn’t
really grab me…. It’s fair to say that it was a struggle.
