No Basis for Government

Peter Milligan & Juan Jose Ryp “Britannia” (Valiant, 2017)

It’s Sherlock-as-legionaire, investigating a case in occupied Britannia. Faux Roman history meets Druidic horrors. It’s honestly not like anything I’ve read before.

While it gets high marks for originality, somehow it just failed to captivate me.  I just wasn’t draw into the story. A lack of empathetic characters? Maybe. A lack of interest in the fundamental mystery of the book? Certainly.

While the style of art is not what I normally like, I thought it worked really quite well for a horror title. It was when the book slipped back towards a historical mystery that I thought it didn’t work.
